Let’s face it, life is full of hidden dangers that we know nothing about. Even things like hand sanitizer and plastic food containers contain hidden health risks when you use them. Electromagnetic fields (EMFs) are another one of those surprise health hazards, but since we can’t see them, we rarely know they’re present.
What are EMFs, exactly? What are the risks that EMF exposure poses to our health? Are there specific EMF danger levels to avoid?
Read on to learn the answers to all of these questions and more!
What Is EMF?
EMFs are fields of energy that radiate outward from different pieces of matter. Many things in our life have some form of EMF emanating from them, including our own bodies and the Earth itself.
However, the biggest concern comes from EMFs that emanate from electronic devices. This includes things like our cell phones, neighborhood power lines, cellphone towers, and even the wireless internet in our homes! Our lives are full of electronic devices that radiate EMFs.
EMFs were not a huge concern in the past because they weren’t as prevalent. With the introduction of modern technology, however, EMFs are ubiquitous everywhere we go. It was with this rise in prevalence that concerns over exposure to EMFs began to take shape.
Is EMF Exposure Dangerous?
The answer to this question isn’t cut and dry. There have been some studies on the topic, but few have had conclusive results. That doesn’t mean that we don’t have some idea about the risks that exposure to EMFs pose.
In 2011, the World Health Organization stated that EMFs pose risks to human health. Specifically, EMFs may be carcinogenic as they have been linked to a form of brain cancer. At this point, we are still in the early days of our understanding of the impact of EMFs on human health, so it’s important to take measures to protect yourself in case the risks prove true.
What Are EMF Danger Levels?
At this point, we have a general range of EMF exposure that we believe is safe for people. Health Canada developed a guideline that states that people can safely be exposed to anywhere from 3 kHz to 300 GHz of EMF. To make sure that you fall within this safe range, consider purchasing an EMF detector.
You can also take steps to limit your exposure to EMF, like shutting off your WiFi at night and utilizing a faraday tent for your bed.
Don’t Skimp on EMF Protection!
EMF exposure poses significant risks to you and your family’s health. The scariest thing about it is that you can’t see them, so you never know how much EMF exposure you’re getting at one time. Taking the steps necessary to avoid EMF danger levels is one of the best things you can do to protect the health of everyone in your home.
