Unclear contracts &amp; expectations are managed by making sure without exception I speak first to my primary customer contact—whether it&#039;s a CxO or someone in the trenches.  I, too, have accepted &quot;discount gigs&quot;—&amp; you&#039;re right, managing expectations &amp; achieving success is far more challenging than one might think.  In spite of temptations to the contrary, I *always* work the customer&#039;s agenda.  I frankly can&#039;t imagine &quot;catching the &#039;client&#039;s&#039; disease&quot;, do my job just for the money, or pretend.  The lack of integrity concomitant with such behavior belies the primary theme of your post:  T-R-U-S-T.  You&#039;re right, building &amp; guarding  trust is one of the most important things we consultants can do.  Nicely done, Alik!</description>
