Convert Your Blog’s RSS Feed Into PDF

By alik levin

Would you like to see how your blogodream might look like? Would not you like to know how your eBook feels like?

I am not a magician but I think I might be of help.

by Bohman
Below are sample eBooks I’ve generated automatically from the few blogs I read. I did it using my gold nuggets collection method. All I needed is subscribe to the blogs’ RSS feeds and then press the “Magic” button. This type of modeling is useful for me in order to test wether I am ready to publish a book or not. Are you? Do you like what you see? No? Tell me, please. Be honest – help me to improve.

The quest

If you want to have such sample eBook – just leave me comment with the link to your blog. I’ll add your eBook generated from your RSS to the list below.

The right prices of the service - FREE

No strings attached. I’ll do it for free – ABSOLUTELY free, so the price is just right. It is limited time offer. Hurry up ;)

Ask

If you like what you see – spread the word on your blog. If you do not like it – leave me a comment on what to improve – no obligations. I might consider insightful suggestions as a next version feature set ;).

Why?

Why I am doing it? I just love experiments (blogrdoc must know the feeling). I am testing the technology, I am testing myself for effectiveness. Once I test it I know what to improve and where to take it next. I need QA (quality assurance) team. I ask You to be my QA team. How do I reward you? I produce the eBook for you .

Disclaimer

If you would like me to remove the PDF file of your blog – please let me know and I will do so. Only good intentions.

The eBooks

Below is the list of eBook I’ve generated automatically from your blogs. Click on the <<file name>>.pdf below and the download will start immediately. If you click on the image, it will take you to my Sky Drive where I host the eBooks. You can grab there the script and embed it on your blog so it shows exactly the way it looks below. Have fun.

Hey Alik. This was really cool. Thanks for converting my blog to pdf-book and for the link-love.

HTML should be readily translatable to book form. I remember learning LaTeX in grad school. It’s interesting to see how XHTML is a step in that direction. I’m so out of date with what’s going in in web standards. I could easily imagine a unix command like blog2pdf command :)

Hi Alik: Very interesting.

Four questions:

1. Can the PDF file be manipulated so that each blog post begins at the top of a separate page?
2. Can certain posts be excluded?
3. Can you edit the PDF file (in case you want to add more to each post than what was originally in the post that was published)
4. Can a cover page be added?

Marelisa,

All answers - YES. It only requires more manual work.

My current process is as follows:
1. Suck up the feed.
2. Move the posts to the designated folder.
3. Press the “Magic” button that generates Word 2007 doc. Here you can do whatever you could do w/Word
4. While in Word 2007 save the doc as PDF.

All steps can be scripted making it fully automated.

So currently the process is half automatic and half manual. I am testing it.

Thanks a lot for insightful questions.

Alik ~

You have lots of creative genes. I loved the concept. I’m thinking to write an ebook about my journey in America. I came here on Sept.11, 1990 with $20. I’m happy to say that I have achieved my chief objective of owning businesses and building a good net worth. I’ll give it away free to a new subscriber. Your lessons will be valuable in creating a PDF.

Thanks
Shilpan

I have been looking for something like this since long.
Thanks for working on this. Please see if you could convert my blog to pdf format.
Would like to receive it in Email instead of a link here.

Cool! Thanks I got the email from you.
Considering myself as QA for your technology/scripts…here is a bug for you :)
It does not convert all the posts from my blog. But only recent 25 posts are converted to pdf.

Thanks anyways…very helpful.

Great to hear you liked it, and thanks for pinting out the “bug” my system has ;)
it is actually feature by design :):)

My RSS reader could only suck up 25 posts since your publishing platform allows only 25

Thanks. Maybe Google blogspot is to be blamed?
Any workaround you can suggest?

#13 alik levin on 11.20.08 at 2:40 pm

not sure, i have never researched on it
if you do - share your findings please

I want to create a book (pdf is fine) for dear friends whose blog is on carepages.com and one has to log in to see it.

I don’ t think these individuals want their web log to be public, however.

Could you help me convert their blog?

Amy,
Unfortunately, I cannot help here w/o credentials.
You might want to check on this tool though:

Hi,
I am redesigning a school’s “Daily Notices” system using Apple’s Wiki Server 2. I have everything in place, using RSS to push out the notices the second they are created. The final piece of the puzzle is to create a PDF that Auto Updates every morning. Unfortunately WS2 does not create true valid RSS feeds, and will not work with and RSS to PDF converters that I can find.

Has anyone got any suggestions?
thanks,
Cam
